Hanzo stared down at Kuai, still aside from the slow rise and fall of his chest as he breathed. The heart monitor bleeped in a gentle rhythm.

“Hanzo,” Kenshi softly said to his side, placing a hand on his shoulder. “The doctor’s think it might be best to be ready to say goodbye.”

“No,” Hanzo snapped, having to quell his rage lest he set the ward on fire. “No. He isn’t going to die.”

“Hanzo-“

“I will save him. Even if they can’t.” He reached down to take Kuai’s hand in his, kissing the knuckles. “I will find a way.”

Kenshi just gave a resigned sigh, and the room fell into relative silence, only broken by that steady beep, assuring Hanzo that Kuai Liang wasn’t gone yet.
