Kuai stared at the necklace in his hands. It was silver, with a blue sapphire on a pendant. It was beautiful, far too beautiful for a lowly Lin Kuei assassin like himself. He looked across at Bi-Han who’d stopped paying attention to him since passing him the necklace.

“It was Mother’s,” Bi-Han explained, somehow knowing Kuai was searching for an explanation.

“And, why are you giving it to me?” Kuai asked, looking down at it again.

“I have a distinct feeling that she would have wanted you to have it.”

Bi-Han didn’t offer anything more than that, turning to leave. Kuai sat in silence, contemplating how he was going to hide this from the elders.
